Love Your Farmer, Love Your Food 2019

Moscow, Idaho’s Love Your Farmer, Love Your Food is an annual celebration of farmers, ranchers and local food entrepreneurs in the greater Palouse-Clearwater region. This year’s event featured Texas Ridge, Hands & Hearts Farm, Millhorn Farmstead Creamery and Kamiak Coffee Company. Held at Moscow City Hall, the event opened with a reception featuring light appetizers from the Moscow Food Co-op, a seasonal tasting of Love’s Kombucha and local craft beer from Moscow Brewing Company.

Texas Ridge, located in Deary, Idaho raises local, all-natural meat, bred for flavor. Their tag line, “Everything good grows here.” reflect the integrity of their brand. They raise “a whole other breed of grass fed beef” and “delicious guilt-free pastured pork.” You can order your Easter Ham now! Texas Ridge offers traditional hickory smoked ham roasts for $10/pound. Fresh, uncured ham roasts, ready for you to cure and smoke with your own special recipe, are just $9/pound.

Hands and Hearts Farm, LLC is a small, diversified family farm located just outside Moscow, Idaho. Owned and operated by Ames Fowler & Delaney Piper, they provide local farm fresh lamb, chicken and eggs year-round and produce and flowers during the growing season. Sign-up for their 16-week CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) subscription and pick-up your weekly box of produce at the Tuesday Community Market from 4:00-7:00pm at the Latah County Fairgrounds. CSA pick-up starts the the first week of June (6/4/19) and runs through the last week of September (9/24/19).

Millhorn Farmstead raises A2A2 cows, pastured pork, truly pastured eggs, and pastured meat chickens and turkeys. “Pasture to Plate,” Katie Millhorn cares about the health of her animals, the health of her family and the health of her customers. As a modern homesteader, Katie is “obsessed with cows, chickens, whole foods and canning.” Her website is both a homesteading resource and a farm shop. Visit her website to learn more about the benefits of A2A2 milk, recipes, and canning and preserving, and, of course, to order your milk and meat direct from the farm. If your lucky, you might even be able to find homemade A2A2 ice cream.

While Kamiak Coffee Company prides themselves for their ability to roast phenomenal coffee, they says its their green coffee buying practices that distinguish them from other coffee roasters. Co-founders Gran & Kyle are committed to building and maintaining honest, responsible and mutually supportive partnerships with sustainable coffee producers around the world. In their own words, “We recognize that it is the growers, not us, who determine a coffee’s potential and we are privileged to work with producers who take such pride in their work.” You can purchase their coffee online or at their Moscow storefront.
