This one is NOT a Morel! Don’t eat the brainy ones…
To top it all off -we went out to cut a lovely bouquet of flowers from Sunshine Flowers.
The dinner this all inspired was rich and delicious! A couple of small, grilled, slider-esque hamburger patties made with local beef. These were accompanied by a nice big slice of baked sweet potato (not local, sorry – but if you have regular potatoes, carrots or some winter squash still in storage, those can just as easily accompany this dish), and an amazing combination of local bacon, sauteed with spring garlic from our CSA and sliced morels with some asparagus added at the end and cooked just until it is bright green.
Mushroom hunting is a great way to get into the mountains, it is a bit like fishing – you don’t always catch something, you can’t always eat what you find and it is a great way to get out and connect with nature.
Do you like mushroom hunting? Do you have tips to foraging that reduce the impact on the land? Have some favorite morel recipes? Let us know in the comments!
With Gratitude- especially to Shane McFarland for always helping to clean up the mess I make!
